Are you pregnant and wondering what your options are and whether Hope can help?
Here are some common questions from women in your same situation:
I just found out I’m pregnant, and I wasn’t planning on this. How do I decide what to do now?
Finding out you are unexpectedly pregnant can be overwhelming. We know you may be feeling a lot of pressure to choose what to do right away. It’s important to take some time to allow the news to sink in, and for you to figure out how you’re feeling. Rushing into a decision about your pregnancy might actually create more stress. Try to relax and breathe.
There are many things you need to consider when making a decision about your pregnancy. Women who are pregnant have three options: parenting, adoption, and abortion. Be sure to think through each option and give yourself the chance to feel confident and assured about your decision before you move forward.
When you’re unexpectedly pregnant, a lot of well-meaning people will offer their advice and opinions on what option you should choose for your pregnancy. It can be helpful to talk to someone unbiased who is not going to try and convince you to do what they want — so you can choose for yourself. That’s exactly what our Hope consultants are here for.
You can come into Hope at any time to talk to a consultant about your pregnancy and your decision. Our consultants are here to listen and give you a safe place to process your feelings and your decision about your pregnancy.
Sometimes it can feel like you’re the only person going through these things, but we want you to know you’re not alone.
We want you to make a choice about your pregnancy that you feel good about and can live with. Only you can decide what that is. Our consultants won’t persuade you or give you their opinions. They will ask questions to help you figure out what you want to do and then help you with the resources you need.
Who should I tell I’m pregnant?
Sharing your unexpected news with someone you trust is important. Find someone you know will listen to you and whom you can trust. Maybe this is a friend, a relative, a professor, a spiritual adviser, or your boyfriend or husband. Take a minute and think about the people in your life. Who would be your support system?
It’s also important to have someone to talk to who can be 100% objective. At Hope, we want you to know that we are here to listen and to support you in a confidential setting. You can meet with a consultant at any time to talk more.
What should be my next step?
When you find out you are pregnant unexpectedly, you may feel overwhelmed with all the decisions you have to make. It’s important to take one step at a time and make sure you feel confident about your decisions about your pregnancy.
First, think about what you value in life, what your current situation is, and the people around you who can be part of your support system. If you don’t know what choice you want to make for your pregnancy, it may be helpful to talk to other women who have faced similar situations to help you process your own emotions and let you know that you’re not alone.
Hope consultants can also help you with the next steps you need to take care of yourself and your pregnancy once you have made a decision. A consultant can help you talk through these steps and discuss how to overcome any hurdles that may be preventing you from accomplishing those steps. Hope has a large list of referrals and information that can help you get what you need in order to take the next step, whether that is to sign up for insurance, get a doctor, or tell your family about your pregnancy.
Women tell us that it’s helpful to have someone to talk to who can be 100% objective. That’s why you can contact Hope at any time to speak with a consultant. We are here to walk alongside you as you decide what to do — and help you with your next steps.
